2 Cents About a Penny

Have you ever gone to a store, bought something for $3.99, paid $4.00 and NOT gotten back that missing penny back?

That happened to me this morning. And many other times in the past. Mostly at gas stations.

What is the deal with this? Why is it ok to steal my penny without even talking about it?

I want that one cent back. Please don't make it wierd. Please don't make me ask for it back.

I know it's only a penny, but if this happens to me twice a year for the rest of my life, which I suspect it will, and I live to be 82, that's $1.64 that people I don't even know are robbing me blind of.

Quit bitching about Obamacare and Wall Street people. This is the stuff that really matters!

It takes two

Yesterday my husband informed me that he bought a surfboard. I'd been trying to talk him out of it all summer, but now I'm glad he got the damn thing so he can stop talking about it.

He claimed he got a good deal because the owner was originally asking $550 and he got it for $450. I don't usually talk about specific dollar amounts because I think it's rude. But for the sake of impact, I had to here. Because guess what husband, that’s still a buttload of money.

If I wanted to buy a dress that was originally $1000 it wouldn't exactly be a "good deal" if I talked the seller down to $900. Anyway, the funniest apart about the whole conversation was what reaffirmed my notion that he should never, ever be a salesperson.

He actually said, "Oh, well maybe you could go out with me sometime. The guy who sold it to me said it was really great for couples' surfing." And, yes, he meant on the same surfboard. He was trying hard to make me feel good about that $550.

Yeeeah...No. I don't even swim in the ocean for fear of sharks, and I sure as hell am not about to linger out there for hours every afternoon while my husband learns how to surf with me on the board. That can't be good for our relationship. And I know I can't be good for his buoyancy.

Sacagawho?

This is borderline the meanest thing I've ever said, but if you ever want to see something amazing, pay for a purchase with a Sacagawea at a place where the employees most likely dropped out of high school.

Minds will be blown.

I Heart Birthday Discounts

Last night was one for the books in terms of good deals. I was so high off discounts that I convinced myself I was the next Suze Orman, only not a lesbian.

Thanks to a 15% off Birthday card from Anthropologie, and a little patience with a gift card from Christmas, I got a $98 dress from Anthro last night for only $1.73 out of my pocket!

I also got a $40 Banana Republic shirt for $15 because I've been saving a $10 reward card that I coupled with my $15 Birthday reward card. Both items are perfect for my trip next week to...wait for it...Puerto Rico!

And I also got a "pedicure" for free thanks to a promotion I found in the newspaper.

Basically I got $175 worth of stuff and services for only $26.73, including tip for the "pedicure."

That's wicked awesome, eh? It pays to sign up for all that Anthro card, BR Visa, etc. crap sometimes! I ain't scurred to be the crazy lady with coupons ;)

I wish it was my Birthday everyday!
