The Olive Cafe and Wine Bar - An Epicurean Emporium Devoted to Taste

If you live in Wilmington and are wondering what you are going to do this weekend, wonder no more.  I've got you covered. 

 

You will be dining al fresco at The Olive Café and Wine Bar at the Forum Shopping Center on Military Cutoff Road. 

 

Now I can't speak personally for the lunch and dinner offerings, but the menu looks To. Die. For.  I am going back as soon as I can get a dinner date.

 

I can, however, speak for the brunch menu.

 

I went there last weekend with my sister and mom and we had a splendid meal.  At first glance I was worried, because the brunch menu is semi-limited.  There were only 8 menu items to choose from.  I'm not really a brunch or breakfast gal so I wasn't sure how it was going to play out.

 

Well, it turns out, when everything on the menu is phenomenal you only need 8 choices.  Here's what we got:

 

Croque Madam for my sister:
Ham and Gruyere on an English Muffin, topped with Egg and Mornay Sauce

 

Prosciutto Egg Cups with Cheese for Me:
Self explanatory and divine!  So salty and good.

 

Quiche of the Day for Mom:
I believe this was broccoli, Gruyere, and ham.  T'was delicious.

 

I would go here again and again and again.  I even got a frou frou latte drink just because the whole experience was so gourmet and special. 

 

Who wants to join me for lunch or dinner here soon!?  The menu, found here, has a whole section devoted to "Cheese Toasties".  If that doesn't intrigue and excite you, I don't know what will.

 

They also have a wonderful Olive Oil and Vinegar bar next door called Taste the Olive.  If places like this are thriving, you have to believe the economy is on the mend.  It sells everything you never knew you had to have and has perfect gifts for the lady that loves to cook.  I love it!

 

Be Advised - No Mas Fajitas

In case you were planning on going to K38 on Oleander in Wilmington anytime soon, be advised:  You will be devastated.

 

It's closing for renovations for 2 months and I could not be more displeased about it.  I love it so.

 

Sure there are other locations in town, but none are as convenient.  None know me as well (they don't know me at all).  Plus I just need time to grieve. 

 

I went last night for my last feast for at least 2 months.  I almost cried in my black beans.
 

 

 

What will happen to the delightful waitstaff in this interim?  Will I be invited to the grand re-opening?  How many calories and dollars will I unwillingly save by not eating here at least once a week?

 

So many questions, so little fajitas.  Temporary RIP K38.  You will not soon be forgotten or replaced.

Indochine Restaurant - Lusciousness Abounds, So Does my Stomach

Last night, to celebrate her 31st wedding anniversary, my husband and I let me mom treat us to a Thai dinner at this amazing place called Indochine. And we feasted!

We started with a delicious appetizer sampler, filled with several things I can't pronounce and 5 delicious dipping sauces, pictured below. Yum + Variety = What more could you want?!

And next, because no one would believe me that we should share entrees, we ordered enough food to find 12 people...for the 3 of us. We will be having leftover Thai for lunch and sensible snacks for the rest of the week. The doggy bag alone probably weighed 10 pounds.

Even though I'm a total newbie to Wilmington, I am going to go ahead and say I know enough to recommend this place to anyone. The inside of the restaurant is great, very Thai/Vietnamese inspired. But the back of the restaurant is awesome sauce. You can get your own personal little Tiki huts to eat in. I've been told this is most luscious during the Spring or Fall when you won't be dripping sweat into your Moo Goo Gai Pan.

Try this place! It was truly amazing service, excellent food, and good company. Just trust me when I say that sharing an entree is still more than enough food for two people. Despite how un-fun that may sound to begin with, I promise you'll be able to breath much better if you share.
