Makeshift Ball Pit

Sometimes I just plum run out of stuff to do with Jack.

He's a man on the move and needs to be constantly entertained. He also had a deep passion for throwing balls.

I think he finally met his match:

The Makeshift Pack n Play Ball Pit

It combines his passion for play and balls, and my two favorite things: Entertainment and Containment.

If you try this order a lot more balls ten you think you will need. This pictured above is my order plus a friends whole stash.  And I think I need even more.

Spoiler Alert

This weekend Grant and I went on our first movie date since Jack was born (and maybe our second ever).  We went to see American Sniper.  It was awesome.

I won't give away the ending to the movie. But I will give away the ending to our night.

We got home I asked the babysitter how Jack was.   Her response started like this, "Well...he cried a lot.  Again."

Ok that sucks but no big whoop.  But then she kept going...

"And he wouldn't eat any dinner."

"And he wouldn't have any of his bottle."

"And he went to bed at 6...I think he was tired from all of the crying."

"Oh and he is still wearing his clothes from the day."

So, basically, the entire laundry list of things you never want to hear from your babysitter.  He went to bed sad, hungry, and dirty.  Oh joy.

The smart thing to do would be to have her come way more often so he actually knows who she is and doesn't get forever sad.

But the more economical, and likely, thing to do is never go to the movies together again until Jack is at college.

But really, great movie.

Wake Up Shut Up

Besides my baby, life, husband, and general well being, I have a really compelling reason to stay healthy in life --> So that I never have to get anesthesia again.

Source
On Monday I had an endoscopy to further investigate my raging post-pregnancy acid reflux that has been giving me breathing trouble for months.  I wasn't scared of the needles, being put to sleep, or the procedure.  But I was terrified of what I might say when I woke up.

You see, my past with anesthesia has involved saying the following ridiculous things upon waking up:

- That I invented the high five.

Source

- Telling the doctor that his partner's daughter is mean for no reason and seemingly likes being a bitch.

-Telling the doctor that his son is hot.

- Waking up sobbing and telling the nurses that I'm not sad, I'm just so happy because they did an amazing job removing my tonsils.

And this time I woke up startled saying, "Oh sorry I didn't know where I was!  I thought I was being robbed...Not because you're black."

UGH!  I am an idiot.  I don't even say stuff like that ever!  What is wrong with me?!  Grant already told me if I ever have to have this done again to stretch my esophagus out again that he can't come with me because he works at the hospital and doesn't want to be associated with my unpredictable post-anesthesia musings.

Fair enough.

NOclace

Sometimes I randomly start watching the Bachelor.  I haven't taken the bait in a few years, but this season, I'm hooked.

Chris Soules is a hotty with a body, I love that he's a farmer, and I can't get enough of his cute little giggle.

He was, seemingly, the perfect man.  I mean...

That is, until last night's pool party.   Isn't it amazing that someone can seem so normal and natural and then, out of nowhere, they reveal that they are wearing a necklace.

Man jewelry.  Can't live with it.  End of sentence.

I still love him.  He's a sweetheart and so easy on the eyes.  But if I know one thing to be true, it is that Men + Jewelry does not = Sexy.

Frontal Momhawk

I finally got my badge of honor as a mother.

Source

No, I'm not talking about your hair falling out, your belly button looking more like an elephant's anus than a navel orange, or jet black circles under your eyes.  Been there, done that.

I'm talking about the petite frontal mohawk that almost every formerly pregnant person I know gets about 9-12 months after having a child.

I'm just adding this to the list of side effects of having a baby.  Of course, it is all worth it.  But I won't mind when I start feeling less like a page out of a biology book and more like just a regular person.

Ode to the Spiralizer

I know I haven't blogged in a long time, but it's because nothing has really inspired me lately...that is, until I got my Spiralizer!

I have been wanting one of these things for many years and I finally got one for Christmas.  Even though someone already discounted it as a trendy kitchen accessory that I will never use, I love it so.  I will definitely be using it a lot.

Easy, beautiful "Zoodles"

It's perfect for me because it is a great way to get vegetables into your meals without having to eat a meal that tastes too vegetabley, and you can basically make anything into a pasta-like meal with it.  I actually don't like pasta much at all but adore pasta sauces and all accompanying toppings, so I can get the good stuff I like without all of the calories of the pasta itself.

And it leaves this funny shaped thing behind in it's spiralizing wake.

This is what I made last night and it was wonderful.  It was also my first time using anchovy filets.  Exciting!

This is what I want to make next.

Spiralized Sushi Bowl with Salmon Sashimi and Ginger Miso Dressing

And thanks to this website I have endless inspiration.

Also, I really want to be healthy with all of Spiralizer creations, but doesn't this just scream, "Make curly fries next!"

I think so.
